“…and in an all-encompassing whirlwind of emotions, the cycle of stories in Western Literature, along with our central character—the solitary, nomadic, and sarcastic mixed-race man with long hair, uncompromising and habitual drinker of Brazilian coffee, with his lethal secret weapon—disappears, for his avid readers, in a surprising and unexpected ending, now resurfacing in distant flooded lands, across the sea, in the then-defined tropical and enigmatic…Imperial Brazil…”
In the “Popular Imagination,” the Old West has always been the stage for epic saloon brawls, bloody duels in deserted streets, and also savage attacks by Native Americans; always distinguishing the good man (of the law) from the ugly man (outlaw) and the bad man (Indian), or simply transforming them into legendary characters.
Thanks to the fantastical “Hollywood” machine of images, since its inception (1911), where the characters were explicitly created, characterized, and exaggerated; thus highlighting very well their character and position in society and what they thought and imagined about those times.
And let us never forget that legends and myths will always be greater than history itself in every part of the world.
However, historians contest the exaggerated dramas and heroism, denying both the barbaric aspect and the civilizing mission, because their criticisms cannot be radicalized in their objectivity, between Legend and Reality about the American Old West and its characters and events, absolutely.
The conquest of the Old West was, above all, the work of poor immigrants, manual laborers, undeniably.
There, social status and titles of nobility didn't matter; each person relied on their own survival skills in the miserable and realistic daily life.
It was a time, in reality, when the thin, dusty, ambiguous line separating good from evil often broke.
Especially during and after the American Civil War!
It was a cruel time; without heroism or cowardice.
For war truly shatters the soul of the man who survived its atrocities!
The character was created by Wilson Vieira in the 1980s, initially as a series of comic books, the first to be published being "GRINGO the Chosen One."
However, this limited the reader's understanding of his complex personality to a few pages in each album; the author then decided to transform everything he had already written into scripts for literature in the following years, thus giving each reader the freedom of imagination and a greater realistic understanding of the character of the long-haired mixed-race man in the time he lived.
GRINGO, in its narratives, is the explosive mix of Cormac McCarthy's raw writing with Sergio Leone's realistic and believable images and characters.
It's the true image of the surviving man in the Wild West of the post-war era.
Here begins an adventure, described in a savage time, where "Law" was simply an insignificant word and in the rough land, where the weapon became, evidently, the only possible justice, along with the cunning and personal choices…right or wrong, of each man.
It's a powerful read between fiction and historical reality; in 4 books containing 1228 pages.
A truly realistic Western, revisited and redefined; because the Far West wasn't limited to cowboys, quite the contrary.
Follow the character on his solitary and incessant ride through this hostile environment, while he is still alive!
A nameless mestizo…arriba…GRINGO!

GRINGO: BRAZILIAN HISTORICAL FICTION IN FOUR VOLUMES!!
I AM THE FIRST BRAZILIAN WRITER TO WRITE A WESTERN TETRALOGY...GRINGO...IN MY COUNTRY!!
Wilson Vieira, returning to his home country of Brazil after seven years in Italy studying and working on Gianni Bono's IF Staff - Genova, also preserved and brought with him a carefully selected culinary creativity, as well as a few other stimulating, intriguing, and unforgettable habits acquired in the crowded Italian movie theaters of the 1970s, where he was an attentive, assiduous, and enthusiastic visitor.
He did so by writing down in detail every single essential condiment, as well as putting down on paper the various Western dishes served on celluloid at the time.
This is his true personal interest—unparalleled, profound, captivating, tasty, juicy, and intoxicating—in "Spaghetti Westerns," whose original and unique recipe was created by an Italian duo of exceptional Masterchefs: Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone.
A recipe that Wilson has carefully preserved, even over the passage of time and the changing fashions regarding certain essential ingredients.
After decades of patiently waiting for the exact time, after an intense leavening and maturation, Vieira offers his many loyal customers, in a banquet, this exquisite dish, notable for its intense aroma and flavor, and above all for its surprising, unparalleled content.
Eat with true pleasure, reader, this magnificent alchemy: GRINGO, the Brazilian literary food, which will now finally and ceremoniously be offered in an exceptional, unprecedented and unique menu, in four different volumes packed with vitamins.

After the graphic novel, now there's also Brazilian historical fiction... GRINGO is a dense read! The Old Wild West is very well represented in this book in all its aspects!!
Novelists and mythmakers wrote across all genres: episodic and eccentric, dramatic and heroic, and so on, creating that superficial image of a Wild West that has always fascinated every new generation around the world.
We historians question the exaggerated drama and heroism of the West, denying both the exaggeratedly "barbaric" aspect with which it has sometimes been portrayed and its supposed civilizing mission.
Today, this quest for the history of the pioneers and the economic and social origins of the United States of America remains the subject of countless and endless studies.
But the conquest of the Old Wild West was, above all, undeniably, the work of poor immigrants.
Regardless of their social status or titles of nobility, every pioneer experimented with different survival skills in the miserable and real daily life of the West.
GRINGO is one of those countless digressions on that exciting and fascinating theme that remains inexhaustible and mysterious: the Old American West, in literature.
The first volume begins a realistically described adventure, in a savage era where law was simply a meaningless word and in the harsh land where the gun became the only possible justice.
The classic hero idealized by the Western, in literature and comics, is usually respectful towards women, courteous to the humble, skilled and prepared to fight against his enemies—always respecting the rules of a fair game.
And above all, he is a winner!!
GRINGO, believe me, no!!
I don't write to create heroes: in fact, quite the opposite, and especially for this character!!
He breaks with all these literary monotonies; he is absolutely not this kind of stereotypical character, especially when he finds a relative brutally murdered before him.
Rising from the ashes of the bloody American Civil War, this survivor carries with him, in his adventures, the scars of a horrific past, remembering the terrible battles he fought in, battles that divided the country, killing thousands of men like him.
GRINGO begins to reveal his true and complex personality through the pages of this series.
Yes, dear reader: the Wild Old West is back, to be read in four sensational volumes with four chapters in each.
GRINGO is a lively, vibrant read, packed with action from start to finish, with self-contained yet interconnected stories; here, the excellent Italian Western films are transferred and materialized, with the theme of the real and exciting world.
They are the Spaghetti Westerns.
GRINGO is the true image of the post-war man who seeks to overcome violence, hatred, and the thirst for revenge, wanting only to survive, day by day.
Death has rejected him, but it can still take him at any moment. Join GRINGO on his lonely, relentless ride through this hostile environment while he's still alive!
